Top Beach Games for Tweens and Teens
While some of us may be satisfied with nothing more than a towel and a stretch of beach for lying in the sand, there may be members of your family who are looking for a little bit more entertainment while they hang at the beach. And if you’re traveling to the beach with teens and tweens, it’s best to keep them occupied, rather than have to listen to complaints about boredom … this is a vacation, after all!
So here are a few of our favorite beach games for tweens and teens. They’re not guaranteed to keep them from being bored, these are teenagers we’re talking about, but we’re fairly confident that between the waves and the games, you’ll all be in for a good time:
Bocce Ball
Bocce ball is one of our favorite Italian-inspired pastimes! You can pick up a set that can be played both at home on the lawn and on the beach. You split up into teams if you have a larger group, or if there are only a few each person plays solo. A small jack/ball is thrown first, and then each subsequent player tries to throw his or her ball as close to the jack as possible. Sand provides an element of unpredictability that’s fun, and so does the idea of using your ball to knock another player’s ball out for the way for a win!
Burying Contests
If you have a few teenagers, a burying contest can be fun. They can split up into teams and bury a person, or find two sticks of the same height, stand them up in the sand, and have a contest burying the two.
Beach Olympics
You set the course! Some of the best competitions for the beach are disc toss and long jump, but don’t be afraid to add in your own favorites, like limbo!
Beach Dodgeball
If you have enough space on the beach to spread out, Dodgeball is a super fun game that’s well suited to a day at the beach. Divide your group into two and place them across the “court” from each other (you may have to mark out your court in the sand). Of course, if the beach is crowded, this may not be the best choice.
Sand Sculpting
You can either break into two teams and have them compete against one another, having an impartial mom or dad be judge, or all collaborate on one mega-sculpture. The choice is yours!
